Bryn Mawr, PA – The Monroe University men's soccer team pulled off its second top-20 upset of the season with a comfortable 4-1 win over No. 11 Harcum College on Friday.
The Mustangs picked up where they left off prior to their road loss at No. 1 Iowa Western Community College last week. They won the 50/50 balls and keep their foot on the gas throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Freshman
Peterson Aquino got the scoring started early after his shot at the goal ricocheted off a Harcum defender. A few minutes later, sophomore
Braxton Richards doubled the lead. Both goals were unassisted.
While the Bears fired back to make it 2-1, a pretty set up from sophomore
Joao Victor De Araujo Ribeiro put the lead back at two. The second-year defender launched the ball into the Harcum defense and freshman
Junyoung Park's speed did the rest.
Up 3-1 heading into the half, the ferocity on both ends of the pitch continued. Late in the game, sophomore
Abner Cubas launched a similar set up as De Araujo Ribeiro's, this time to a wide open sophomore
Carmelo Bello.
The 4-1 victory pushes Monroe back to above .500 and it will draw Harford Community College next on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
