Miami, FL – The No. 10 Monroe University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 8 Miami Dade College on Wednesday, falling to 0-3 on the campaign thus far.
The Mustangs went into the half deadlocked at zero, but the Sharks registered goals in the 56
th and 78
th minute to send the visitors home from its three-game stint in Florida without a result. Despite the defeat, Monroe pieced together 16 shots, including nine on goal, in the outing.
Freshman
Brunno Rhyan and sophomore
Diego Palomera Herrera each generated three shots, which led the team. The attacking trio of sophomores
Carmelo Bello,
Braxton Richards and
Jin Yamamoto also had two shots apiece. Rhyan and Richards both had two shots on goal.
Sophomore
Leonardo Martinelli recorded a season-high six saves despite being dealt his second loss on the year. The Mustangs forced the issue on both ends, but the scoring just fell the wrong way as Monroe will look ahead to returning to the northeast.
Monroe will travel to Maryland to take on Division II No. 5 CCBC Essex on Saturday, September 6, at 2:00 pm.
