Women's Soccer Staves Off Miami Dade In 0-0 Draw

Miami, FL – The Monroe University women's soccer team held strong in its season opener on Thursday, playing to a 0-0 draw at Miami Dade College.

It was a back-and-forth affair with neither side letting up. Freshman Wiktoria Mikrut kept up the pressure offensively with eight total shots, including three on goal. Defensively, it was freshman Magdalena Syrek who stopped seven shots by the Sharks.

In the end, the two sides combined for 15 saves on 26 shots.

All but one of Monroe's starters logged 90 minutes with sophomore Valentina Londono taking over for freshman Mia Staples on the defensive end early in the second half. That consistency helped the new-look Mustangs stave off the Sharks to earn their first result of the season.

Monroe will take on Polk State College at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 24, to round out its two-game weekend in the Sunshine State.
