Eunice, LA – The Monroe University baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader at LSU-Eunice on Saturday. The Mustangs fell in game one, 13-0, before losing in game two, 12-2, despite an excellent hitting display.
In the closing game of the afternoon, Monroe was only outhit by three and were within striking distance of the Bengals well into the contest. Trailing 5-2 after a solo home run from freshman
Ryan Marchina, the Mustangs let the game go in the seventh and eventually in the eighth as Eunice enforced the run rule on a bases-loaded single.
Despite the ten-run differential on the final score, the Mustangs consistently had runners on base. Marchina was joined by freshman
Jesus Nieves — who had four hits across the two games — with multiple hits in game two.
Freshman
Alan Tejada Henriquez allowed just one earned run across four innings of work.
In game one, the Mustangs limited the Bengals to just six hits despite the 13 runs scored.
Monroe will look to capture its first win of the season on Sunday in the final game of its six-game road trip. First pitch for Sunday's matchup against Eunice is scheduled for noon ET.
