New Rochelle, NY – Ten different players of the Monroe University men's basketball team scored in Saturday's 68-60 victory over Baltimore City Community College. Sophomore
Devere Palmer Jr. led the Mustangs with 18 points.
After losing to the Panthers earlier in the season, the Mustangs responded with an all-around effort to move to 21-7 on the year. After falling behind 4-2 early, the Mustangs never trailed following a game-tying jumper from sophomore
Ryan Williams Jr.
That jumper from Williams Jr. sparked a 37-23 run to end the half. Palmer Jr. scored ten in the opening half, while freshman
Eric Mejia and Williams Jr. contributed nine and eight points, respectively.
The second half saw Monroe control the score, but Baltimore City hung around enough to give the Mustangs a bit of a scare. Foul trouble fed into the ever-looming Panthers as three of the five starters had four or more fouls.
But the Mustangs persevered, never letting the lead dip below two possessions. A six-point margin with 1:03 remaining was as close Baltimore City got, and Monroe took care of the ball late to ice the game.
The Mustangs will take on Covenant College Prep on Wednesday, February 26, at 6:00 pm.
