Bel Air, MD – The Monroe University men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Harford Community College on Tuesday, improving to 6-4 on the season.
The scoring started early with freshman
Junyoung Park capitalizing on two goals within the first nine minutes. Freshman
Brunno Rhyan assisted on the first score off a throw-in. Park's second goal came on a breakaway past the Fighting Owls defense.
After a Harford response in the 21
st minute, sophomore
Carmelo Bello scored 48 seconds later to make it 3-1. Neither of the two sides scored in the second half, but Monroe kept the pressure up with 12 shots over the final 45 minutes of action.
Park and Bello matched each other with six total shots and four shots on goal apiece. Sophomore
Braxton Richards, who played another 90 minutes, totaled four shots for the Mustangs.
Sophomore
Leonardo Martinelli recorded the win, logging a full 90 minutes in goal.
Monroe will now shift its attention to No. 19 Monroe Community College on Sunday at Skidelsky Field. The game will begin at 1:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
