New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's volleyball team won both of its matches during Saturday's tri-match, defeating Delaware Technical Community College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-8), and Roxbury Community College, 3-0 (25-0, 25-2, 25-4).
Monroe made quick work of both visiting teams in large part due to service aces. Over the course of the tri-match, the Mustangs accumulated 49 service aces — averaging 8.2 per set. Against Roxbury, led by sophomore
Mileyshka Melendez's mark of 11, the Mustangs set a new single-game program record with 31 service aces.
Versus Delaware Tech, sophomore
Flavia Pecora was one of six players to record a service ace as she tallied seven on the match.
In the first contest of the day, Monroe breezed through set one before encountering a bit of a roadblock in set two down 6-0 to Delaware Tech. Timely offense and the service aces began to add up, earning Monroe a nine-point victory. The team tallied 10 of its 18 service aces in the set, with Pecora recording four of her seven in the comeback effort.
Set three was smooth sailing and that carried into Monroe's perfect 25-0 victory over Roxbury in set one of their match later in the day. Melendez recorded all 11 of her service aces in the set, while Pecora accumulated six kills in the set.
Sophomore
Fabiana Lopez then took the lead serving in set two, tallying six in the win. Sophomore
Emma Dedushaj finalized the set after Roxbury got on the board, delivering an additional five.
The Mustangs, currently riding a 23-game win streak, are on the cusp of securing a 30-win season for the first time since 2022. They will take on Union College in the penultimate game of the regular season on Monday at 7:00 pm.
