NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 31, 2024 – The Monroe University Mustangs women's volleyball team made it a perfect weekend at the Monroe University Volleyball Invitational on Saturday after defeated Fayetteville Technical Community College in three sets to close out the Mustangs' three-match weekend. The Mustangs improve to 6-2 with their fifth straight match win, while the Trojans fall to 2-2.
 
The Mustangs won all nine sets they played during the Monroe Invitational this weekend. The team was led offensively in Saturday's lone match by Fabiana Lopez, who threw down a team-high 10 kills to go with five digs and two aces. Madison Smith hit a team-best .556 with a total of six kills, adding two blocks as well. Natalia Rodriguez and Flavia Pecora each registered five kills, with Pecora filling up the stat sheet with a team-high seven digs, five aces, a block and an assist. Mileyshka Melendez handed out 26 assists and added two aces and six digs. Jelena Peric totaled four kills, three digs and two blocks in the win.
 
The Mustangs have a quiet week coming up, but end it with a match at long-time rival, and No. 24-ranked Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md., on Sunday, Sept. 8. Sunday's match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
