MESQUITE, Texas, August 29, 2024 – After a tough loss after a long travel day on Wednesday, the No. 13-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team put on a show Thursday evening at Dallas College Eastfield, defeating the Harvester Bees, 10-3. The Mustangs improve to 2-1 overall with the win, while Eastfield drops to 0-3.
The opening 12 minutes of Thursday's match were as action-packed as it comes.
Katherine Bean-Rosario put the Mustangs on top with a goal in the second minute, but then both teams scored in the sixth minute, including
Katherine Neves' second of the season. Cora Hurst and Mackensie Davis then scored for Eastfield in the 11th and 13th minutes, respectively, to give the home team at 3-2 advantage.
The Mustangs then came storming back, with
Leni Fohrer, Neves,
Ines Alonso and
Maiko Kikuchi scoring four straight for the visitors to give Monroe a 6-3 halftime edge.
The Mustangs kept their foot on the gas in the second half, with Kikuchi netting her second of the evening at 50' for a 7-3 lead.
Roxie Fowler potted her second score of the year at the 52:37 mark. Kikuchi then completed her hat trick in the 71st minute to give Monroe a 9-3 lead. Bean-Rosario scored the first and last goals of the game with one more in the 87th minute to lead to the final score of 10-3.
Both Mustang goalkeepers split Thursday evening's contest.
Karolina Placek made her first start and earned the win after making two stops with three goals allowed.
Beatrice Vitaletti did not face a shot in the second half. Eastfield netminder Breanna Loftin stopped nine shots but yielded 10 goals to take the loss.
Kikuchi picked up her first-career hat trick and added two assists for an impressive eight-goal evening, but Neves ended up taking the points lead for the night after providing five assists to go with her two scores for a nine-point match. Bean-Rosario had four points with her two-goal game.
Carmen Santamaria and
Julia Meyer each registered an assist as well in the win.
The Mustangs outshot the Harvester Bees, 27-9, with a 20-5 edge in shots on goal on the night. Monroe also registered five of the game's seven corner kicks.
The Mustangs will travel home on Friday before getting right back to work on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they host Mohawk Valley Community College at Skidelsky Field at City Park in New Rochelle. Saturday's matchup is set to kick off at 1 p.m.

There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
