MIAMI, Fla., August 22, 2024 – The top-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team's title defense hit an early roadblock on Thursday, as the Mustangs dropped their 2024 season opener at Miami Dade College by a score of 1-0. The Mustangs fall to 0-1, while the Sharks get their season start at 1-0.
After a scoreless first half, it was the Sharks that took the advantage early in the second half Thursday evening. Miami Dade's Edoardo Duchini scored off an assist from Guilherme Soares Martins in the 56th minute of the match to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, they were unable to find the one score they needed during the final 34 minutes of Thursday's season opener, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Sharks.
Alvaro Ramos played all 90 minutes in net for the Mustangs, making one save while allowing one goal to fall to 0-1 on the early season. Miami Dade's Samuel Cavo made one stop to pick up the shutout victory.
The Mustangs will look to put their season-opening defeat in the past when they play next on Friday, Aug. 30, in a neutral-site matchup against Laramie County Community College in Rochester, N.Y. Next Friday's matchup is set to begin at 12 p.m.
