Newport News, VA – The Monroe University football team concluded its 2024 season with a 40-0 victory over The Apprentice School on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Donovan Brown added his second multi-touchdown game of the season against the Builders.
With 1:01 remaining in the first half, on the second play of the drive, freshman Jayden Wright found Brown for a 68-yard reception to put the Mustangs up 23-0. Then, after forcing Apprentice to punt out of the intermission, freshman
Raeden Oliver targeted Brown for a ten-yard score.
Brown finished with 138 receiving yards on six receptions.
The game saw seven fumbles lost and 30 total penalties, but the Mustangs were able to capitalize on Apprentice's mistakes more often. A fumble recovery touchdown from sophomore
Theodore McDuffie set the tone defensively, putting Monroe up 9-0.
Oliver then closed out the first quarter with a QB rush from the one-yard line.
Up 16-0, Brown took over to give Monroe a 33-0 lead. Redshirt freshman
Lasalle Rose then converted on a 25-yard touchdown to conclude the outing. Oliver connected with Rose on the final scoring drive, finishing his game with 208 passing yards.
