Daytona, FL – The No. 16 Monroe University men's soccer team tied with No. 12 Daytona State College, 2-2, on Thursday evening. Freshman Joao Victor Figueiredo Novais De Assis scored the equalizer in the 85th minute.
The game saw the Mustangs put up 15 shots, including eight on target. Figueiredo Novais De Assis and fellow freshman
Braxton Richards led the way with three shots each.
Fresh off his NJCAA Division I Player of the Week nod, freshman
Harumi Yunaiyama continued his torrid stretch with another goal in the 30th minute. Figueiredo Novais De Assis then leveled the game up, sending the Mustangs home with their first draw of the season.
Sitting at 6-3-1, Monroe will conclude its regular season slate on Saturday, October 19, at 7:00 pm at No. 8 Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, FL.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
