ROCKVILLE, Md., September 1, 2023 – The No. 8-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team doubled up host Montgomery College on Friday, 4-2, to open the Mustangs' weekend trip down to Maryland. The Mustangs improve to 2-0 with the win, while the Raptors fall to 1-1.
After more than 23 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Mustangs got on the board twice in three minutes.
Louise Featherstone potted one in the 24th minute off a feed from
Julia Meyer to get the scoring going for Monroe, and then Meyer doubled the lead in the 27th minute off an assist from
Katherine Neves, eventually leaving the Mustangs up, 2-0, at the half.
Neves got in on the scoring early in the second half after
Faith Lemmert found her for a goal in the 48th minute, pushing Monroe's lead to 3-0. The Raptors got on the board in the 61st minute when Sabrina Di Marzio sent a long free kick just over the keeper and into the net to bring the score to 3-1 with just under 30 minutes to play.
In the 76th minute,
Samara Dullabh found the back of the net for Monroe off a pass from Featherstone to extend the lead to 4-1. Montgomery got back on the board again in the 82nd minute when Isabelle Watson got one over the line to make it a 4-2 game with time dwindling.
Natalie Dobler got the start for the Mustangs and did not allow a goal in the first 45 minutes with one save to secure her second win of the season. Ruby Lancaster yielded three of Monroe's four goals in net for Montgomery to take the loss.
Three different Mustangs totaled three points apiece in Friday's win. Featherstone, Meyer and Neves each scored one goal and one assist to contribute to another road win. The Mustangs outshot the Raptors, 13-5, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Mustangs wrap up their trip to Maryland on Sunday, Sept. 3, when they visit Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md. Sunday's matchup is set to kick off at 4:30 p.m.

There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
