WILMINGTON, N.C., August 26, 2023 – The No. 12-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team will have to wait an extra day for its first official match of the season, as the Mustangs' matchup at Cape Fear Community College on Saturday was called at halftime due to excessive rain and lightning, before it could become an official game.
Louise Featherstone had gotten the Mustangs on the board for the first time this season when she broke away and beat a defender to win a one-on-one matchup with the keeper, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 edge in the 16th minute of the game. Unfortunately, Featherstone's goal will no longer count due to the cancelation of Saturday's game.
The Mustangs are set to take on USC Lancaster on Sunday, Aug. 27, in what will now count as Monroe's 2023 season opener. Kickoff tomorrow is set for 12:30 p.m.
