NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 19, 2023 – History was made on Saturday at the Monroe Athletic Complex in a three-set victory for the No. 14-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team over Atlantic Cape Community College as part of the Monroe College Volleyball Invitational. The Mustangs set a program single-match record, hitting .818 across the match's three frames. The Mustangs improve to 2-0 with the win, while the Buccaneers fall to 0-4.

The Mustangs were incredibly efficient in each set, hitting over .800 in all three (.833, .818, .800). The .818 clip breaks the record set back on Sept. 23, 2013, when the Mustangs hit .604 in a win over Westchester Community College. Through two matches, the Mustangs are hitting .681 for the season.

The Mustangs spread the ball around in Saturday's win, with
Darlenys Olivo leading the way with six kills, hitting .857 in the process.
Gabriela Aimi Zuquelo threw down five kills at a .714 clip.
Ariana De Jesus and
Izabela Wos had four and three kills, respectively, while both hit 1.000 in the match.
Doriangelis Serrano Reynoso and
Kiara Figueroa each had three kills as well.
Martina Villani led the team with 12 assists, while
Francesca Andreon dished out eight of her own.
Alessia Gallo had four assists to go with four digs and an ace.

Figueroa had a pair of blocks in the win, while
Manon Braunsteffer, Wos and Zuquelo each had one. Serrano Reynoso and Villani served up six aces apiece, while
Valeria Soto registered five.
Tara Rajkovic added another three aces, while
Morelia Diaz had two. Zuquelo led the team with eight digs in the match.

The Mustangs begin their first big road trip of the season on Tuesday, Aug. 22, kicking off a week in Florida with a match at No. 18-ranked Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla. Tuesday's match is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
