NELSONVILLE, Ohio, October 30, 2023 – In another road matchup featuring wet, rainy, muddy conditions, the Monroe College football team persevered again, defeating Hocking College on Saturday, 13-7. The Mustangs improve to 6-2 on the season with their third straight win, while the Hawks drop to 1-9.

The Mustangs fell behind in the first half of Saturday's matchup. Quarterback Joey Moore was able to hit Keshawn Barber for a 45-yard touchdown, putting Hocking up, 7-0. The Mustangs were moving the ball, but struggled to finish drives in the first half, resulting in a seven-point deficit at halftime.

The Mustangs quickly turned things around in the third quarter. They tied the game when Mason Boothe found Jamel Stubbs for a 27-yard score on a fourth down, making it a 7-7 game. On the ensuing drive for Hocking, the Mustangs forced a punt, but Ian Brown got his hands on it for a block, setting Monroe up with great field position. Boothe was sacked on first down, but he then hit Rashawn Reid for a 42-yard touchdown, leaving the Mustangs on top, 13-7. The defense took care of business from there to hang on to the six-point lead the rest of the way.

Despite the difficult conditions, Boothe completed 21-of-34 passes for 279 yards and two touchdown in the winning effort on Saturday. Reid led the team with five receptions for 80 yards and a score. Diego Lamonica totaled four catches for 44 yards. Stubbs made his lone catch count with a 27-yard touchdown. Kyon Barnes led the rushing attack with 29 yards on six carries.

Nareece Wright once again led Monroe with seven total tackles in Saturday's win, including 1.5 tackles for loss, as well as a pass breakup. Abdoul Kone made five tackles that included a sack and another tackle for loss. Tony Carter matched him with five tackles, including one in the backfield. Monroe will be playing at the newly renovated The Stadium at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, N.Y. for their final two home games of the season, beginning this Saturday, Nov. 4, when they take on No. 12 Lackawanna College at 4 p.m. More details about the Mustangs' new home field will be announced shortly.
