BALTIMORE, Md., October 16, 2023 – The No. 4-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team suffered its second defeat of the season on Monday after dropping a 3-1 decision to NJCAA Div. II No. 7 CCBC Essex after a long day trip down to Baltimore. The Mustangs fall to 8-2-1 overall with the loss, while the Knights improve to 13-2.

The Knights got on the board first in Monday's matchup when Futaro Hosoi scored in the 29th minute to give the home team a first-half lead. After the game went into the half with that same 1-0 score, CCBC Essex's Zach Eichelberger scored off an assist by Yutaro Aikawa in the 47th minute to double the lead at 2-0 early in the second half.

Monroe cut the deficit in half in the 60th minute of the game.
Gun Ha Lee set up
Tal Torgeman for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to get the Mustangs back in the game. Unfortunately, the next goal went to the Knights, as Eichelberger netted another at 66' to reach what proved to be the final score of 3-1.

Alvaro Ramos shouldered the loss for the Mustangs after allowing one goal with three saves in net during the first half. CCBC Essex's Colton Drought earned the win with four saves.

The Mustangs will look to get back into the win column this Friday, Oct. 20, in their final regular-season contest of the season. They host No. 18 Monroe Community College at Joseph F. Fosina Field at City Park in New Rochelle in a crucial matchup for playoff standing. Friday's game is set to begin at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
