NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., October 13, 2023 – The No. 4-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team bounced back at home on Friday, defeating Lancaster Elite, 5-1, at Joseph F. Fosina Field. The Mustangs improve to 8-1-1 on the season with the win.
Â
The Mustangs were surprised early in the contest when Lancaster Elite's Alejandro Trejos managed to score in the 12th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Mustangs then tied things up in the 23rd minute when
Alejandro Silvestrini crossed from the right wing to the middle of the box, finding
Tal Torgeman for the score to tie it up at 1-1. Less than a minute later, Silvestrini worked his magic again, forcing the ball into a small space right in front of the goal where
Thiago Jose Da Silva was able to control and fire past the keeper, putting the Mustangs in the lead, 2-1, at 24'.
Â
Monroe got back on the board in the 40th minute. With a lot of traffic in front of the net,
Felipe Jaime Arruda managed to get a shot off through all the commotion after a pass from
Shotaro Kino and hit the back of the net, extending the Mustangs' lead to 3-1.
Â
After a quiet start to the second half, the Mustangs lit up the scoreboard again in the 70th minute.
Ryosuke Tanaka fired off a cross from the left wing right in front of the goal where
Gun Ha Lee headed it over the keeper and in, pushing Monroe's lead to 4-1. With just 63 seconds left in regulation, Lee scored once more off a deflection, helping Monroe reach the final score of 5-1.
Â
Alvaro Ramos got the win in goal for the Mustangs to improve to 3-0-1 on the season.
Riku Yamasaki took over in the second half and made one save. Nathan Huff took the loss in net for Lancaster Elite despite 14 saves.
