TYLER, Texas, August 20, 2022 – After a challenging 1-0 defeat against No. 2 Tyler Junior College in its 2022 opener two nights ago, the No. 5-ranked Monroe College Mustangs bounced back in grand fashion on Saturday at Tyler's Pat Hartley Field Complex, blanking No. 15-ranked LSU Eunice, 2-0, for the Mustangs' first win of the season.

Determined not to suffer anything close to the same result as Thursday's season opener against Tyler, the Mustangs quickly went on the offensive. Sabrina Bastos Da Silva potted the Mustangs' first score of the year in the third minute of the game, giving Monroe an early 1-0 edge on the Bengals.

Late in the first half, the Mustangs took advantage of another scoring opportunity. This time,
Natali Maymon capitalized for her first as a Mustang in the 43rd minute, leaving the Mustangs with a 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

Stephanie Hodgson was not tested much, but came through when needed, making two saves to earn her first win and first shutout as a Mustang on Saturday. Leigh Brophy took the loss in net for the Bengals after yielding two first-half scores.

Bastos Da Silva scored the game-winner and led the Mustangs with four shot attempts in the win. Maymon came off the bench to net Monroe's second goal of the evening.
Angel Fowler,
Daniela De Souza and
Karaline Gray each fired off a shot in the win. The Mustangs held a narrow 8-7 edge in shots in the game, but put five shots on goal to just two for LSU Eunice.

The Mustangs head back home with a 1-1 record, but will not stay in New Rochelle for long. They head down to the Carolinas for two contests, the first a matchup at Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m.
