NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 17, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's basketball team spread the ball around in the final regular season contest of 2021-22, with 11 different Mustangs scoring in a 102-66 victory over Shots with Patience Prep Thursday evening at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs wrap up the regular season with a 24-6 overall record.
Though it took three minutes for the Mustangs to get on the board in Thursday's contest, they had no trouble quickly jumping into the lead. A 12-2 run had Monroe on top, 12-4, with 13:11 to play in the first half. The Mustangs steadily improved upon their lead, going up, 28-11, after an alley-oop from
David Gordon to
Keon Gill with 7:32 to go in the half. Shots with Patience responded with a 9-2 run to get back within 10, but the Mustangs did not let them get closer than that the rest of the half. Monroe closed out the half with five of the final six points to take a 41-26 advantage into the break.
Gill came off the bench to lead the Mustangs with 10 points through 20 minutes of play.
Hamdel Mohammed was next with seven points and three rebounds.
Melvin Council Jr. and
Tyje Kelton each contributed six points apiece, while
Jerald Campbell and
Nikola Danicic tied for the team lead with four rebounds at the half.
The Mustangs scored the first nine points of the second half to take a 24-point advantage. The lead reached 27 later in the half when a dunk by Council made it a 67-40 game. Shots with Patience managed to cut the deficit to 16 points with 5:25 to play, but the Mustangs closed out the game on a 23-3 run, leaving the court with a 102-66 victory.
Gill and Mohammed matched with a team-high 19 points in the win, with Mohammed adding eight rebounds as well. Danicic added 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Council tallied 12 points with five boards and five steals.
Braelon Joe led the team with seven assists. Campbell,
Brandon Hodge and
Isac Ahnstrand each scored seven in the game.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports.
