MUSTANG HISTORY AT THE GULF ATLANTIC DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
2021: After a one-year hiatus, the Mustangs had their best performance at the Gulf Atlantic District A/B Championships last season. The Mustangs stormed through the competition, winning all three of their matches, including back-to-back victories over top-seeded Wallace State Community College, to claim the District A Championship as the tournament's top team for the first time ever.
2019: The Mustangs had a difficult journey through the Gulf Atlantic District tournament in 2019, having to play seven matches across three days. After losing their second match of the weekend, the Mustangs needed to win the next four to earn one of the tournament's automatic bids to the NJCAA Championships. The Mustangs did just that, which also forced them to play a third match that Sunday to try and claim the District A Title. An exhausted Mustangs team pushed Gadsden State to its limit in a five-set thriller, but the Mustangs barely fell in their third match that day, still advancing to the NJCAA Championships as the District B Champions.
2018: After the NJCAA did some redistricting, the Mustangs made their first ever appearance at the Gulf Atlantic District Championships in 2018, then simply called the District L/M Championship. After getting through the first day unscathed, the Mustangs lost to top-seeded Wallace State to drop into the loser's bracket on Saturday. Needing just one win to still claim the District M Title, the Mustangs defeated Lawson State Community College in five sets after going down, 2-0, to earn their spot in Hutchinson, Kan. The Mustangs then pushed Wallace State to five sets after once again falling behind, 2-0, but were unable to win the last set and take the District L crown.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
The top two teams at the end of the Gulf Atlantic District A/B Championship will both earn automatic bids into the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Women's Volleyball Championship in West Plains, Mo. The tournament champion will earn the District A Title, while the tournament runner-up leaves with the District B Championship. The 2022 NJCAA Championship will take place at the West Plains Civic Center from Nov. 17-19.
