ROCHESTER, N.Y., October 7, 2022 – After falling behind early in the second half,
Tony Yeboah managed to tie things up for the No. 3-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team with just minutes to spare, eventually forcing a 2-2 stalemate between the Mustangs and the Tribunes of Monroe Community College Friday evening at John L. DiMarco Field. The Mustangs move to 8-0-2 on the season with the draw, while the Tribunes go to 7-1-1 overall.
The Mustangs did what they have done in most games this season, scored an early goal to take an early lead.
Felipe Jaime Arruda set up
Bruno Rosa in the seventh minute to put the Mustangs on top, 1-0. In the 21st minute, the Tribunes potted the tying goal off the foot of Brandon Johnson. Neither team was able to break the tie in the first half, sending the match to the break with a 1-1 stalemate.
The Tribunes managed to jump ahead in the 60th minute of the game, when Federico Bushi put one home to make it a 2-1 score in favor of the home team. It was not until the 86th minute when Yeboah netted the equalizer for the Mustangs, knotting things up at 2-2 to eventually send the game into overtime.
Though both teams had their chances in each of the extra 10-minute periods, neither one was able to break through and score the winning goal, resulting in a 2-2 draw, much like the Mustang and Tribune women experienced last month on the same turf.
Making his second start for the Mustangs,
Hyeongjun Choi moves to 1-0-1 on the season after allowing two goals in the tie. Monroe Community College's David Indra also gave up both goals in the game.
The Mustangs are back in action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they host Lancaster Elite at Skidelsky Field beginning at 8 p.m.
