UNION, N.J., September 7, 2021 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team hit the road once again Tuesday evening and picked up a four-set victory over Kean University (25-21, 25-10, 29-31, 25-14). The Mustangs improve to 9-3 overall with the win.
Yaliancis Flores led the Mustangs with 17 kills in the win, adding 14 digs for a double-double.
Leanisse Solano was right behind her with 15 kills and 11 digs, adding a team-high five service aces.
Delaney Killeen had a kill on all five of her attacks, and also matched
Aaliyah Saunders with a team-best three blocks.
Alondra Ramos threw down seven kills and added two blocks.
Alisha Callender dished out 27 assists to lead the team, adding 17 digs, five kills and two blocks.
Lyanis Rios was next with 15 assists and also served up four aces.
Laura Paniagua led the team with 19 digs and added five assists and two aces.
The Mustangs are back in action this weekend when they host the Monroe Volleyball September Invitational at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The five-team tournament that includes Monroe, WVU Potomac State College, Montgomery College, Lackawanna College and Nassau Community College, will include five matches a day on Saturday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 12.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
