Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 9 Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 10 Cowley in Kansas

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan., September 22, 2021 – The No. 9-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team took on a big challenge Wednesday evening, opening their trip to Kansas against No. 10-ranked Cowley College. Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to come out on top in battle of nationally ranked opponents, falling to the Tigers, 3-1. The Mustangs drop to 3-2 on the season with the defeat, while the Tigers remain unbeaten and improve to 7-0.

The Mustangs got on the board first in Wednesday's highly anticipated matchup when Tony Yeboah found some space and beat the keeper in the 15th minute for an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers then rebounded in the 30th minute when Caique Trivelato netted the equalizer. Just 50 seconds later, Luis Rodrigues put the Tigers in the lead, eventually sending the game to halftime with a 2-1 score in favor of the home team.

Much of the second half was highlighted by the defenses, but the Tigers broke through once again in the 76th minute. Yuzuki Motohashi found an opening and scored Cowley's third goal of the night, one that proved to be the dagger in Wednesday's match.

Goalkeeper Tomaso Lorenzi made seven saves in Wednesday's contest, but it was not enough after allowing three goals, dropping him to 3-1 on the season. Cowley keeper Rafael Furlani needed five saves to pick up the win.

Yeboah's goal was his second of the season for the Mustangs. He led Monroe with three shots in the game, including two on goal. Isaac Garro Coto put both of his chances on net in the game.

The Mustangs will look to rebound on Friday, Sept. 24, when their Kansas trip concludes with another big-time matchup against No. 15 Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. EST.
