HAGERSTOWN, Md., November 28, 2021 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's basketball team picked up its second victory over Hagerstown Community College in as many matchups on Saturday, defeating the Hawks, 70-62, at Hagerstown's Jim Brown Classic. The Mustangs improve to 5-3 overall with the win, while the Hawks drop to 2-6.
Reigning NJCAA Div. I Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Melvin Council Jr. led all scorers with 16 points in the win, adding six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Isac Ahnstrand was next with 11 points.
Hamdel Mohammed came off the bench to score 10 points with three boards.
Keith Warren Jr. contributed five points, six boards and three assists off the bench as well.
The Mustangs wrap up the weekend with another East District rival, taking on Allegany College of Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Hagerstown ARCC as part of the final day of the Jim Brown Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
