Monroe Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Caps off Undefeated Weekend in West Virginia with Pair of Victories on Saturday

KEYSER, W.V., October 9, 2021 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team made it a perfect weekend in West Virginia on Saturday, defeating both Montgomery College and WVU Potomac State College in three sets apiece in a tri-match at Potomac State. The Mustangs improve to 26-4 overall with the pair of wins, and did not lose a single set throughout the three-match weekend.
 
MATCH 1: Monroe 3, Montgomery 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20)
The Mustangs were dominant as usual in the opener, rolling to another three-set victory in which they hit .209 and held the Raptors to a .042 clip.
 
Leanisse Solano threw down 15 kills and picked up 12 digs for a double-double, adding two aces as well. Yaliancis Flores was next with eight kills, while Alondra Ramos had seven. Alisha Callender handed out 19 assists and recorded 11 digs for a double-double, adding an impressive five aces. Lyanis Rios had 18 assists, while Laura Paniagua had 12 digs and three aces.
 
MATCH 2: Monroe 3, Potomac State 0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-11)
The good times continued when the Mustangs took on their hosts for the weekend in Potomac State. They hit .329 across the three sets, improving in each one, while holding the Catamounts to a .100 hitting percentage in the match.
 
Ramos led the way with time with nine kills, hitting .500, while also registering three blocks. Solano and Flores followed with six kills apiece. Delaney Killeen added five kills and two blocks. Callender had another 14 assists, six service aces and nine digs. Rios passed out a team-high 19 digs with three aces. Paniagua led the team with 15 digs and added four aces of her own.
 
The Mustangs will return home and play next on Monday, Oct. 11, when they host Harford Community College in a 1 p.m. holiday matinee matchup at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
