No. 13 Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Falls in Florida Finale to Eastern Florida State

MELBOURNE, Fla., October 3, 2021 – The No. 13-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team dropped a 5-3 decision to Eastern Florida State College Sunday afternoon to close out the Mustangs' trip to Florida. The Mustangs fall to 3-5 overall with the loss, while the Titans improve to 5-4.
 
The Titans scored the first three goals of the game in the first 34 minutes, taking a 3-0 edge into halftime. Isaac Garro Coto scored for Monroe in the 56th minute on a free kick to cut the deficit to one. Nils Friebe scored to make it 3-2, but the Titans got another score to go up, 4-2. Liam Murray picked up a goal to get back within one late, but the Titans got one more in the final seconds for a 5-3 final.
 
The Mustangs will look to rebound on Saturday, Oct. 9, when they visit Essex County College at Weequahic Park in Newark, N.J. The game is set to kick off at 12 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
