NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 7, 2019 – The No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team rolled to an 11-0 victory over the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Saturday evening in the Mustangs' home opener at Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. The Mustangs improve to 4-0 on the year with the win, while the Knights fall to 1-2.
The Mustangs packed it on with five goals in the first half before adding another six goals in the second frame to wrap up the 11-0 win.
Jaison Selden scored twice in the first half for Monroe, while
Tsubasa Nakamori picked up two scores in the second half.
Leon Sitz,
Luca Erhardt and
Roque Viegas accounted for the other three first-half goals.
Jorge Diaz,
Othman Gherab,
Kaiya Kobayashi and
Shawn Manley West all got on the board for the Mustangs in the second half.
The Mustangs commanded time of possession throughout the game, attempting 44 shots (22 on goal) while not allowing the Knights to try a single shot in the win. The Mustangs also earned 12 corner kicks, while the Knights did not have one chance.
Victor Camps got the start for Monroe and earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Oliver Semmle took over in the second half, but neither Mustang netminder faced a shot in the game. Juan Gonzalez took the loss for CCRI after allowing five goals with seven saves in the first half to drop to 1-2. Ednilson Tavares took over in the second half, yielding six goals with four stops.
The Mustangs will play next on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they host Massasoit Community College in the 2018 District Championship rematch at Flowers Park. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
