Erhardt Nets Six Goals as No. 1 Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Rolls to Rainy Victory over Massasoit

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 14, 2019 – Leading scorer Luca Erhardt of the No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team made his team lead even wider on Saturday, netting six goals to lead the Mustangs to an 11-0 victory over Massasoit Community College at Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. The Mustangs improve to 5-0 overall with the win, while the Warriors fall to 1-4.
 
Erhardt put six shots on goal in the win, all of which found their way past the keeper and into the back of the net, setting a new personal single-game record. Erhardt added an assist for a 13-point day. He now has 12 goals and 26 points through five games this season after finishing 2018 with nine scores and 20 total points.
 
Leon Sitz and Rintaro Takagi also had multi-goal games in the win, matching each other with two goals and an assist each. Roque Viegas scored the other Mustang goal in the win, adding an assist for a three-point evening. Cameron Murray dished out two assists in the game, while Cameron Joice and Markus Maurer each handed out one apiece.
 
Victor Camps made three saves in the victory to earn the win and improve to 3-0. Oliver Semmle took over in the second half and also did not allow a score. David Isaac stopped nine shots for the Warriors but shouldered his fourth loss.
 
The Mustangs outshot the Warriors, 28-8, including a 22-3 margin in shots on goal. Monroe also had six corner kicks in the win, while the Warriors had just one.
 
The Mustangs get back to work on Friday, Sept. 20, when they compete in their first Region XV matchup of the season against SUNY Ulster at Skidelsky Field. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
