Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 1 Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Wins Intra-Campus Matchup with Monroe Express

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 23, 2019 – In an intra-campus battle between the Monroe Mustangs and Monroe Express varsity men's soccer teams, the No. 1-ranked Mustangs defeated the Express, 4-0, Monday afternoon at Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. The Mustangs remain undefeated and move to 7-0, while the Express drop to 5-2-1 on the year.

The Mustangs wasted no time getting on the board in Monday's contest, as Ronaldo Da Silva scored off a cross from Roque Viegas just 21 seconds into the contest to take a 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs got back on the board in the 17th minute when Othman Gherab set up Luca Erhardt for his 17th goal of the year, pushing the lead to two.

Daniel Haegler then caught a break at the 44:30 mark. He crossed one into the box to set up a header for his teammate, but it went over his head, hit off the heel of an Express player in the box, and scooted past the keeper and into the net to make it a 3-0 lead for the Mustangs heading into the half.

Viegas gave the Mustangs a 4-0 lead early in the second half, scoring at the 49:43 mark on a penalty kick to cap off the scoring for the game.

Oliver Semmle and Victor Camps picked up a combined shutout in net for the Mustangs, with Semmle earning the win after getting the start to improve to 4-0 on the year. Fred Guillou made nine saves in 73:30 between the pipes for the Express, but took the loss to fall to 3-2-1.

Viegas finished with a three-point day for the Mustangs, while Da Silva, Haegler and Erhardt each tallied a goal in the win. Gherab also picked up an assist on Monday.

The Mustangs get back to work on Saturday, Sept. 28, when they host Bunker Hill Community College at Flowers Park. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
