NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 20, 2019 – With eight different scorers in the game, the No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team picked up its first Region XV victory of the season on Friday over Ulster County Community College at Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. Monroe improves to 6-0 overall with the win, while the Senators fall to 3-3-1.
Leading scorer
Luca Erhardt got things started quickly, scoring off an assist from
Roque Viegas just 87 seconds into the game to make it a 1-0 lead for Monroe. Three minutes later, Erhardt scored again, this time off a feed from
Leon Sitz, making it 2-0 in the fifth minute of the game.
Daniel Haegler made it a 3-0 lead for Monroe after being set up by Viegas in the 15th minute.
Ronaldo Da Silva joined in on the action just 84 seconds later after Sitz's second assist, making it a 4-0 game. Haegler potted another one at the 23:06 mark off a cross from Da Silva, pushing Monroe's lead to five.
Erhardt registered the hat trick at the 25:59 mark, with an assist coming from
Othman Gherab, to make it a 6-0 game. Erhardt later netted his fourth of the evening in the 39th minute off of Sitz's third helper, giving the Mustangs a commanding seven-goal advantage.
Daniel Haegler picked up his third of the evening on a free kick at the 41:50 mark to make it an eight-goal game. Just 39 seconds later, Viegas scored netted one of his own to bring the score to 9-0 heading into halftime.
It did not take long for the Mustangs to get going again in the second half.
Markus Maurer scored at 69:54 to make it a 10-goal game. Maurer then assisted a goal by
Tsubasa Nakamori in the 70th minute to push the lead to 11 goals. Maurer then netted his second of the half at 74:05 to make it a 12-0 lead.
Sarangapany Pagadala was then set up by Nakamori for his first score of the season, pushing Monroe's lead to 13 goals. Nakamori made it 14-0 after an assist from Maurer at 77:25 to make it a 14-0 game.
Rintaro Takagi then pushed the lead to 15-0 after some back-and-forth passing with
Shawn Manley West. Nakamori picked up his third in the 88th minute, pushing the score to 16-0.
Erhardt finished with four goals to move his season total to 16. Haegler scored three times and added an assist for a seven-point day. Nakamori scored three times in the second half, adding an assist as well for another seven-point performance. Maurer scored twice and added two assists for a six-point outing.
The Mustangs will play next on Monday, Sept. 23, in an intra-campus battled with the Monroe College Express at Flowers Park. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
