No. 15 Monroe Mustangs Football Returns After Historic Season this Saturday

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., August 30, 2019 – 2018 was the most historic season in the young history of the Monroe College football program. The Mustangs reached their first-ever bowl game and achieved their highest-ever national ranking on two separate occasions during the year. With a bowl game and plenty of national attention now part of the team's history, the sky is the limit for the Mustangs coming into the 2019 campaign.

Monroe finished 7-2 overall in 2019. The Mustangs ranked as high as No. 12 in the NJCAA Football Rankings two different times throughout the season, and finished at No. 16 at the end of the year. The Mustangs' accomplishments earned them an invitation to their first-ever bowl game, The Graphic Edge Bowl, at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Mustangs took on No. 16-ranked Iowa Central Community College, falling to the Tritons, 34-20, in their first-ever bowl-game experience.

The Mustangs enter the 2019 season as the No. 15-ranked team in the nation, looking to make more history in the new year. Head Coach Terry Karg enters the year with a career winning percentage of .613, which ranks him ninth among active NJCAA head coaches.

The Mustangs face a similar schedule to their 2018 slate this season. They will once again open the year against the New Jersey Warriors this Saturday, Aug. 31. Monroe's season opener will take place on their home turf of Joseph F. Fosina Field at Flowers Park in New Rochelle. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Monroe takes to the road for their following two contests after a Week 3 bye. The Mustangs will visit Delaware Valley University JV in Doylestown, Pa. on Sunday, Sept. 22, for a 12 p.m. kickoff. They will then travel down to Louisburg, N.C. on Saturday, Sept. 28, to take on Louisburg College at 12 p.m. Last year's scheduled matchup at Louisburg was canceled due to a hurricane.

The Mustangs come back to New Rochelle for their annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 5, against Valley Forge Military College. That game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The Mustangs will then play their first of two Northeast Football Conference (NEFC) matchups on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they host currently ranked No. 8 Lackawanna College at Fosina Field. The big NEFC matchup will kick off at 6 p.m.
