PITTSBURGH, Pa., May 13, 2019 – Former Monroe College football player and University of Toledo Rocket
Tuzar Skipper has signed with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent. Skipper is the second former Mustang to sign an NFL contract after Anthony Stubbs signed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this month.
Skipper played for the Mustangs in 2014 and 2015, appearing in 13 games across his two seasons at Monroe. The defensive end made 46 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks across those 13 games. Skipper also had a blocked kick, a forced fumble and a safety. Skipper was named to the All-Northeast Football Conference (NEFC) Second Team in both of his seasons at Monroe.
After his two years at Monroe, Skipper moved on to NCAA Div. I University of Toledo. During his senior season in 2018, Skipper was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) Third Team. That year, he led the team, and was fifth in the MAC, with 8.5 sacks. In three seasons at Toledo (redshirt after injury-shortened 2017), Skipper played in 29 games, totaling 90 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He registered a blocked kick, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including a recovery in the end zone for a touchdown against Ball State University.
