LINDEN, N.J., February 28, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team wrapped up a highly successful regular season with an American Independent Post Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) matchup at Prestige Preparatory Academy, defeating the Patriots by a score of 73-42 Thursday evening. The Mustangs improve to 21-8 overall, the highest win total in program history, and conclude AIPGCC play with a 12-4 record.
Rakim Bryant finished with a team-high 13 points in the win, after making 3-of-6 three-pointers.
Aaron Burton and
Kaynaan Longley matched with a team-best nine rebounds, adding six and seven points, respectively.
Anthony Monti, Joans Gjeci and
Luis Quinones all contributed nine points apiece, while Monti led the team with six assists.
The Mustangs will play next on Saturday, March 9, in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 AIPGCC Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by the Mustangs at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Seeds and scheduling for the tournament will be determined next week.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 29 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has nine varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
