HOUSTON, Texas, February 17, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs baseball team wrapped up its trip to Texas on Sunday against San Jacinto College North at John Ray Harrison Field. The Gators picked up a 10-0 win in the game.

The Gators got off to a strong start with eight runs in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of some free bases before Bryan Seamster hit a grand slam to cap off the first frame.

The Gators later added another two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Adam Houghtaling and Chase Ferem each knocked in a run with RBI singles to make it a 10-0 game after four.

Edinson Sanchez shouldered the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 0-1 on the year. San Jacinto starter Dane Acker earned the win to improve to 3-0.

Jose Martinez batted 1-for-3 and stole a base in the game.
Joe Rosselli and
Eric Diaz each went 1-for-1 after subbing in later in the game.

The Mustangs return home for the week before taking a trip down to Bel Air, Md., to take on a more familiar foe in Harford Community College. They will play three contests against their Eastern District counterparts, starting with a single game on Friday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. A doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23, will wrap up the series.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
