WASHINGTON, D.C., December 27, 2019 – Competing in the National Title IX Holiday Invitational for the second straight season, the Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team dropped a close matchup against CCBC Catonsville, 76-72, in the opening round of the tournament. The Mustangs fall to 5-8 overall and drop into the loser's bracket of the tournament, while the Cardinals improve to 7-4 and advance into the winner's bracket.
ToniRenee Blanford led the Mustangs with 21 points on the evening, adding five rebounds as well.
Cheyenne Talbot totaled 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and a team-high four steals.
India Keene picked up 11 points and led the team with four assists.
Ineysiah Surrell added eight points and five boards.
The Mustangs will look to get back in the win column on Day 2 of the Title IX Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 28, when they take on a familiar foe in Hostos Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
