NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 23, 2019 – The Monroe College Msutangs women's basketball team shouldered its first home loss of the season Saturday evening, falling to Nassau Community College, 77-71, in the first night of the Monroe Thanksgiving Classic at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs drop to 3-2 on the year with the loss, while the Lions improve to 6-0.
ToniRenee Blandford led the Mustangs with 18 points in the game, adding seven rebounds in a solid game.
Daja Wentz followed with 13 points and six boards.
Ineysiah Surrell completed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while
India Keene just missed a triple-double with eight points, eight assists and 10 boards.
Cheyenne Talbot added 10 points and a team-high four steals.
Maya Crimes totaled six points and eight rebounds, while
Devon Adams added six points and seven boards.
The Mustangs close out their weekend against CCBC Essex on Sunday in the final day of the Monroe Thanksgiving Classic. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
