Monroe Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Efficient in Three-Set Victory at Montgomery County

BLUE BELL, Pa., October 16, 2019 – In its second trip to Pennsylvania in as many days, the Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team was incredibly efficient in a three-set victory over Montgomery County Community College on Wednesday. Monroe improve to 17-8 overall and run their winning streak to 13 matches with the win, while Montgomery County drops to 15-6 overall.
 
In a battle of Mustangs vs. Mustangs on Wednesday, Monroe had one of its cleanest matches of the season, hitting .451 across three sets while holding Montgomery County to a -.179 hitting percentage. Monroe hit over .500 in the first and third sets, while keeping Montgomery County to a negative clip in all three frames.
 
Lillian Olson and Giulia La Longa both contributed 10 kills in the win, with Olson hitting .643 and La Longa hitting .600. Alondra Ramos had kills on 5-of-7 swings to hit .714 in the match, adding a block as well. Yarianne Gonzalez and Alondra Garcia once again shared setter duties, passing around 17 and 12 digs, respectively. Masoomeh Angooti led the team with six digs, while Gonzalez and Melanie Orsini both had team highs with four service aces.
 
The Mustangs are set for a big weekend down in Florida, during which they will play four matches across three days, including three matches against nationally ranked opponents. The weekend begins in Bradenton, Fla., on Friday, Oct. 18, when the Mustangs take on State College of Florida. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
