Monroe Mustangs Men’s Basketball Takes Down Lackawanna for Sixth Straight Win

SCRANTON, Pa., January 24, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's basketball team picked up its sixth straight win, and its 11th in the last 12 games, with a 94-63 victory on the road at Lackawanna College Thursday evening. The Mustangs improve to 17-6 overall on the season with the win, while the Falcons drop to 11-8.
 
It was all Mustangs early on in Thursday's contest, as the visitors took an early 12-4 lead. The Falcons scored eight of the next 12 points to make it a four-point game, but the Mustangs picked up the next six to take a 22-12 advantage. Later, a 9-0 run gave the Mustangs a 17-point edge with just 2:14 left to play in the half. A back-and-forth finish to the half left Monroe up, 47-29.
 
Thomas Binelli had a big first half, making 4-of-6 three-pointers en route to an 18-point half. Mouhamadou Gueye added seven points, as well as a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks at the break.
 
Monroe quickly made it a 22-point game with four points to open the second half. An eight-point run later made it a 59-32 game. The Mustang lead reached 31 points when Lenny Kadisha slammed one down at the 10:37 mark, making it a 75-44 game. The lead reached as many as 38 points in the final five minutes of the game, eventually leading to the 31-point victory for Monroe.
 
Binelli finished with a game-high 21 points after making five three-pointers in the win. Zion Styles added 13 points, while Lovro Bulesic followed with 11. Juan Felix Rodriguez picked up 10 points and eight boards, as well as four assists. Kadisha contributed 10 points off the bench.
 
The Mustangs return home to host Woodstock Academy this Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
