LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y., January 15, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball teams turned in one of their best defensive performances of the season on Tuesday, lifting the Mustangs to a 56-33 victory at SUNY Sullivan. The Mustangs improve to 14-5 overall with the win, while the Generals fall to 9-7.
Phyness Baldwin led the Mustangs with 13 points on the evening, adding a team-high six assists as well as six rebounds and four steals.
Devon Adams netted nine points and pulled down a team-best eight boards.
Shanice Graves matched Adams' eight rebounds while adding six points, three assists and three steals.
India Keene registered four steals and six rebounds.
Trayvell Jenkins was the third Mustangs with four takeaways in the win.
The Mustangs held the Generals in the single digits for each of the first three quarters, including allowing just four points in the first frame. The Mustangs led their hosts, 34-13, at the half before slowing things down to close out the game.
The Mustangs return home this weekend to host the Monroe College MLK Classic alongside the Mustang men's team. Monroe will open its weekend with a 6 p.m. contest against Erie Community College at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
