NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 29, 2018 – The No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Bunker Hill Community College in the Mustangs' home opener Saturday evening at Skidelsky Field. Monroe moves to 6-0-1 on the year with the draw, while Bunker Hill goes to 6-4-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs finally broke through in the 52nd minute of the game.
Caio Guazzelli played the ball in the box, worked around a few defenders, and found
Othman Gherab open for a shot from the top of the box, where he fired into the right side of the net to make it a 1-0 lead for Monroe.
Bunker Hill managed to tie the game in the 62nd minute off a corner kick. Riad El Moukhtari crossed it from the corner to Leo Villa, who redirected it into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
The game went into overtime, but neither team managed to get one past the keeper in either of the 10-minute extra periods, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
The Mustangs outshot the Bulldogs, 26-11, on Saturday, while holding a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Monroe also held a 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Mustangs will play next on Saturday, Oct. 6, when they host Harcum College at Skidelsky Field in New Rochelle. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
