NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., October 6, 2018 – The No. 4-ranked Monroe College Mustangs bounced back from last week's draw to defeat Harcum College on the Mustangs' home turf of Skidelsky Field by a score of 4-1 Saturday evening. The Mustangs improve to 7-0-1 on the season with the win, while the Bears fall to 7-3-1.
After some strong scoring opportunities, the Mustangs final broke through in the 21st minute.
Luca Erhardt sent a cross down the left sideline, setting up
Cameron Joice to sprint toward the goal and beat the keeper to the bottom-right corner of the net, giving Monroe a 1-0 lead early in the game.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Mustangs got on the board once again early in the second frame.
Lucas Nishioka lined up for a corner kick from the right corner, which managed to hit the left goal post. It rolled along the goal line, where Joice cleaned it up and put it over the line just inside the right post for his second of the day, pushing Monroe's lead to two at the 50:27 mark.
Monroe added another late in the game.
George Asomani chipped one up the field over a defender, setting up
Othman Gherab to beat the keeper, making it a 3-0 game in the 78th minute. Gherab then set up
Giulio Bregu at the 83:06 mark, making it a four-goal lead for the Mustangs with time running out. Ramon Gallegos got one back for Harcum with 32 seconds remaining, but Monroe held on for the 4-1 victory.
Joice led the way with two goals in the win, while Gherab picked up three points on a goal and an assist. Bregu added the fourth goal late for Monroe. Nishioka, Asomani and Gherab each tallied an assist.
Isac Hildingsson picked up his first win of the season after making four saves in the first half.
Victor Camps took over in the second half, stopping three shots and allowing one goal. Harcum keeper Carter Stuck gave up four goals and made five saves.
The Mustangs played next on Friday, Oct. 12, when they visit Region XV rival ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
