LAKEWOOD, N.J., September 27, 2018 – The Monroe College JV men's soccer team avenged a 4-1 loss to Georgian Court University from a few weeks ago on Thursday, defeating the Lions in the rematch, 3-2. The Mustangs improve to 2-1 on the season with their second straight win.
 
The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead in the game after the first half. Guy Delva opened the scoring for Monroe off an assist from Chrismonor Eugene. Michel Sonceau also scored in the opening half to help Monroe to a one-goal lead at the break.
 
Behzod Sharifov scored for the Mustangs in the second half off a feed from Roberto Minero to make it a 3-1 game. Georgian Court got one back, but the Mustangs held on for the 3-2 win.
 
Ilia Loukissas picked up the win after giving up just one goal in the first half. Christian Vargas took over in the second half, allowing just one score to keep the Mustangs ahead.
 
Monroe will play next on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they visit Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Mass. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
