Mustangs JV Men’s Soccer Picks up First Victory over Army Prep

WEST POINT, N.Y., September 25, 2018 – The Monroe College JV men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2018 season on Tuesday, a 6-0 shutout of the Army Preparatory School on the road. The Mustangs improve to 1-1 with the win.
 
Guy Delva got things started off a cross from Dominic Dixon in the 40th minute of the game, putting the Mustangs up, 1-0. Axel Rodriguez added one more with seven seconds left in the first half, making it a 2-0 Mustang lead heading into the break.
 
Kashane Ashmeade picked things up in the 70th minute off a pass from Gabriel De Jesus to make it 3-0. Chrismonor Eugene added one off a feed from Michel Sonceau at the 74:39 mark to push the lead to four.
 
Ashmeade scored again in the 79th minute to give the Mustangs a 5-0 lead. De Jesus then capped things off in the 83rd minute, redirecting a pass from Isaac Ramirez to wrap things up with a 6-0 win.
 
Ilia Loukissas got the start, and did not allow a goal to improve to 1-1 on the season. Christian Vargas and Daminik Zelayandia also got time between the pipes and kept Army off the board.
 
Monroe dominated time of possession and outshot their hosts, 31-3, including a 13-0 margin in shots on goal. The Mustangs also edged out Army in corner kicks, 4-3.
 
Monroe plays next on Thursday, Sept. 27, when they visit Georgian Court University for a rematch from back on Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
