Monroe Softball Falls Twice at Mercer County

WEST WINDSOR, N.J., April 15, 2018 – The Monroe College softball team dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions on Saturday in a road doubleheader at Mercer County Community College. Monroe falls to 15-12 on the season, while Mercer County improves to 23-6-1.
 
Game 1: Mercer County 8, Monroe 0 (5 innings)
The Vikings picked up their first run of the game on Saturday on an RBI single by Tatum Marshall in the bottom of the first. They added another four runs in the second on an error that allowed a run and a three-run homer by Gabriella Earley. Marshall ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer of her own.
 
Brooke Kane shouldered the loss for Monroe to fall to 8-8. Kaley Wise got the win for Mercer County to improve to 9-2.
 
Game 2: Mercer County 8, Monroe 0 (5 innings)
The Vikings once again got things started with a run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Earley. Earley added an RBI single in the third to kick off a seven-run inning. Julia Rydon capped off the rally with a three-run homer.
 
Brianna Casiano took the loss in Game 2 to fall to 6-3 on the year. Mercer County's Cailyn Seely improved to 5-0 with the win.
 
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Monday, April 16, when they visit County College of Morris for a doubleheader in Randolph, N.J. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall of 2017.
