MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., March 18, 2018 – The Monroe College baseball team wrapped up a week down in South Carolina on Sunday by shutting out the MacMurray College JV team by a score of 3-0 at Griffith Field as part of the Ripken Experience. The Mustangs will head back home with an 8-5 overall record.

The Mustangs did all their damage in the top of the fourth frame.
Ryan Hartigan led off with a walk, and then
Iasid Bernal was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, and then
Kevin Garcia brought in Hartigan with a groundout to third.
Joseph Encarnacion then drew a walk, chasing the MacMurray pitcher.

Encarnacion then stole second base, and the throw trickled into the outfield, allowing Bernal to score to make it a 2-0 game. Encarnacion later moved to third on a passed ball, and was subsequently brought in to score on a single by
Xeno Daal, giving the Mustangs a 3-0 advantage.

Richard Moesker got the win for Monroe, going two innings in relief without allowing a run to improve to 2-0.
Edwin Feliciano Jr. picked up his second save of the season Ryan Bradley took the loss for MacMurray after allowing three runs in 3.1 frames.

Daal hit 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Ryan Hartigan also went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run scored. Bernal and Encarnacion each scored a run despite going 0-for-2, while
Kevin Garcia had an RBI in an 0-for-3 game.

The Mustangs return home and are set for their home opener on Tuesday, March 20, when they take on Mercer County Community College at Dick Caswell Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall of 2017.
