Monroe Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road at Cecil

NORTH EAST, Md., February 9, 2018 – In its first contest in more than two weeks, the Monroe College women's basketball team dropped a 74-67 decision at Cecil College Friday evening in North East, Md. The Mustangs fall to 13-10 on the year with the loss, while Cecil improves to 19-4.
 
Cristina Soriano had a big game for the Mustangs, totaling a team-high 17 points to go with six rebounds, seven assists and four blocked shots. Amani Williams added 12 points, five assists and seven steals. Phyness Baldwin netted 10 points, six rebounds and six steals. Lisana Burnett finished with a team-high 12 rebounds to go with six points, four blocks and four steals. Jessica Degree picked up 10 points and three steals.
 
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Monday, Feb. 12, when they host Manor College to start a five-game home stand at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off for Monday's contest is set for 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall 2017 season.
