Mustangs’ JV Men’s Basketball’s Late Rally Falls Short against Metro BDA

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y, February 6, 2018 – Down by as much as 24 in the second half, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team rallied late but fell short against Metro BDA, dropping Tuesday's matchup at the Monroe Athletic Complex by the final score of 91-79.
 
The Wolves jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, and although Monroe twice cut the deficit down to just two in the first half, took an 11-point lead into the halftime break.
 
Metro BDA opened the second half on a 15-9 run and led by as much as 24 with 8:17 to play, but the Mustang came storming back with a 21-6 run of their own to cut the deficit to eight with just over 90 seconds to play.
 
However it proved to be too little too late, as the Wolves ended the game on a 6-2 run and pulled out a 91-79 victory. With the loss, Monroe drops to 13-11 on the season.
 
Brian Kennedy led the way for the Mustangs with 19, while Nolen Irby tallied 15 and three players – Rakim Bryant, Amadou Camara and Tyriq Melvin – also scored 12 points apiece.
 
Melvin also recorded his first double-double of the season, adding 10 rebounds to his stat line.
 
Monroe shot just 34.7 percent from the field and was outrebounded 50-40.
 
The Mustangs will look to get back on track an avenge an earlier loss when they take on The Robinson School on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
