Deng Bol Yol’s Career Night Lifts Monroe Men’s Basketball over ASA in Regular Season Finale

BROOKLYN, N.Y., February 24, 2018 – Highlighted by a career day for Deng Bol Yol, the Monroe College men's basketball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday by defeating Region XV foe ASA College at St. Joseph's College–Brooklyn by a score of 64-55. The win is the Mustangs' eighth in a row, improving their record to 20-10 on the season. ASA falls to 10-12 with the loss.
 
Bol Yol finished with career highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double as a Mustang on Saturday. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. Bol Yol was even on both sides of the court, grabbing seven offensive rebounds as well as seven defensive boards. He also blocked a pair of shots and registered a steal in the win.
 
Clythus Griffith had another strong game for the Mustangs, finishing with 14 points and a team-high three steals. Damont Kearse pitched in with 10 points and three assists. Nukoy Singleton dished out a team-high five assists.
 
The Mustangs will take the week to get set for the Regional Championship Tournament next weekend, which will be hosted by Monroe at the Monroe Athletic Complex. As the region's top seed, the Mustangs earn a bye into the Championship Game, and will play the winner of Harcum College vs. ASA. The tournament's schedule will be determined on Sunday.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall of 2017.
