BRYN MAWR, Pa., February 1, 2018 – The Monroe College men's basketball team avenged an 85-69 loss to Harcum College back on Jan. 18 on Thursday, as the Mustangs defeated the Bears on their home court by a score of 88-77. The Mustangs improve to 14-10 on the year with the win, while dropping Harcum to 15-6 overall.
The Mustangs had four different players score in double figures on Thursday.
Bryan Assie led the way with a double-double, including 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Clifton Tracey led the team in scoring after picking up 19 points off the bench. Jhery Matoes netted 18 points while pulling down six boards and dishing out five assists.
Damont Kearse, after getting the start on Thursday, added 12 points and a team-high seven assists.
Ebrima Jassey Demba just missed a double-double with nine points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
With Thursday's statement victory in the rear view, Monroe gets set for a five-game home stand beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 6, when the Mustangs host Hostos Community College at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level as of the fall of 2017.
